Hey everybody!

It has been three years since I was a brand new student, fresh out of high school. I'm currently in my fourth year. I started this blog in an attempt to keep my family, friends and any prospective students up to date with my life at the University of Lethbridge. I'm continuing with it this year as it worked well. Thanks for reading!

January 23rd, 2012

So today was my 19th Birthday, the first away from home, and unfortunately I had class. But on the bright side, Bill Nye the "Science Guy" came to give a guest lecture to the school! That was so cool! I'm pretty sure every public school kid from my generation knows who Bill Nye is. I got is autograph and a picture with him, and yes, his eyebrows do really look like that in real life!

After Bill Nye, Hannah and Connor, two of Alicia's friends from Lacomb took me out to the Zoo for a few drinks before they had to go home. Then Nicki drove me and a few other people to the Stone for supper and drinks. It was so nice. Several of the DHI sisters showed up, as well as several people on my floor. They bought me pretty interesting drinks to say the least.

When we got back, Kevin and Alex (she lives on my floor and is as big of a Harry Potter/music geek as I am) had a birthday present for me. The card was referencing the Wizard of Oz and Wicked, which I was really happy about, then Kevin showed me what they got me! It's a stuffed giraffe and it is supper cute!!!!!! I named him Devlin! Then we went for a walk, just the three of us, around campus. Its so nice to actually be able to hang out with Kevin and Alex, they both have more free time on their hands now that it's 2nd semester. All in all, I had a fantastic birthday!

January 19th, 2012

First of all Happy Birthday to my nephew Tyler!

Last night was the spa/movie night for DHI. We had a potluck, watched Sydney White and painted our nails. It was set up as a meet and greet with potential new pledges just to show them that being in a sorority is fun and it really is a sisterhood. (Although as we watched Sydney White we had to tell them the differences between the awful things that happen in the movie and actually things we do in real life!)

It was a lot of fun!

After the Movie Night I went back to the floor and jammed with Kevin, Kurt and Alicia some more. That is turning into my favorite past time at the University (when I'm not studying of course like I am now). Kevin and I worked on a few of the songs we'll be doing (eventually) for Open Mic Night. Kurt's improving a ton! When we started he could carry a tune but his pitch was way off, now though he harmonizes without us telling him which notes to sing, its truly amazing. The only huge thing left to work on for him is his timing....

This morning however I got a lovely surprise in the mail! The Complete 8-DVD Collection of the Harry Potter DVD's that I bought with Christmas money finally arrived!!!! I'm so excited!!! It's so nice to have all of them and they're all mine! Ashley can't yell at me for having "family movies" anymore yay!

Well Happy Friday the 13th Everybody!

I survived the first week of school! My classes are good and I'm really happy with the Prof's. Rush week also went well. There were a few dirty looks from the "Other Sorority" but that's to be expected. Last night was the first "Studio Thursday" after school started to pretty much everyone on the floor got drunk and went out to party. Alicia and I had early classes so, surprise surprise, we stayed in and watched movies. At least that was the plan. At 9:15, Vicki, one of my fellow sorority sisters, walks into the common room and tell me Keltey on the floor is getting sick from drinking too much. So I go and take care of her. I put her hair up so she doesn't get sick on it. And I pretty much force her to drink water and eat crackers. She's fine and feeling a lot better but last night she was a wreak. It was honestly the most disgusting thing I've ever done and I not only held her hair while she was sick but helped her change her clothes and washed out her puke bucket several times. I also read to her to try and take her mind off it.

All something I hopefully won't have to repeat tomorrow. It is Meagan (DHI)'s Birthday tomorrow and me and a few other girls are going to Calgary for her birthday. I don't know exactly where we're going but its to a couple of bars (I'm designated driver) and staying with one of her friends. I'm pretty excited as it's the first away trip I've had away from the University aside from Rookie Camp. I'll let you know how it goes!

January 10th, 2012

So first couple days of classes went really well. I still have Vox Musica (which is choir) but I'm not worried about that. I also have all of my textbooks for under $100!!! I'm so happy about that as I needed 5 novels for English and Textbooks for each Archaeology, Statistics and Macroeconomics. I love all of my teachers which is also really surprising. They seem fun, and yes I know the courses will be hard, but I feel that if I stay on top of my reading and homework, it won't be that stressful. In English I have to read "A Modest Proposal" by Dr. Jonathan Swift and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Man with the Twisted Lip" by Friday. So the work begins!

Today is also the 2nd day of Rush Week at the University so I'm busy with DHI trying to get new pledges, which is proving difficult with the fact that this Kappa Pi Chi attempt at a sorority has been more or less grabbing girls as they walk by. Its sad but it's actually pretty entertaining the look of sheer terror on their faces when their grabbed. Oh well! We must accept what we cannot change.

January 7th, 2012

Hi everyone, I'm sorry I haven't posted anything in a while, but I've been really busy with school and then holidays. Christmas was really nice this year and I don't think I've posted this but I finished my first semester with a GPA of 3.65! I'm so happy!

Anyways, today was my first full day back. Alicia, me and a new girl on the floor, Lauren, went downtown today to pick up my printer and Alicia wanted a hair cut. We hung out at the mall for a while, and we decided we wanted to see a movie so we bought tickets for the 3:30 showing of Sherlock Holmes then went to Staples to pick up my printer as they would be closed by the time we got out of the movie. Boy was that thing awkward to carry. It wasn't heavy, just awkward. Before we went in though, we were stopped my management because the printer box was too big. It wasn't a big deal though, because management said they'd keep it safe for me.The movie was good, awesome ending but I won't spoil it for you! After getting back to the floor, we said hi to the other's back on the floor, watched a movie that I have no idea of the title. Then hung out, played some pool and some risk in the Void for a couple hours. Basically just enjoyed each other's company.

December 2nd, 2011

Classes went well today. I had my French Oral Final at noon and that was easy. I also got most of my Christmas shopping done between classes. After classes though, I was in my room wrapping presents when I heard a knock on my door. Kevin was there and.. so was Brynn!!! His girlfriend had come down for the evening to go to his concert. They are sooooo cute!!!!! She is a sweet girl. Apparently she's heard as much about me as I have of her (and apparently nothing too bad) and she even gave me a hug before she left. We've made plans to go to West Edmonton Mall during Christmas break. Kevin was spending the night with her and his parents so we said that we'd see him tomorrow (hehe). That was a lie. After they left for the concert, Casey, Kurt, Alicia and I got on the bus and went to surprise him at his concert. We sat in the 2nd row. When he came out to play he was so surprised to see us! I think this was one of his best nights ever in University. Not only did the Wind Orchestra perform amazingly, but he got to spend the night with Brynn and his best friends from the floor went to his concert!
After the concert, it turns out we missed the next bus back. We had an hour to wait for the next one and we didn't want to do Whoop-Up Challenge (which is walking up & down Whoop-Up Drive back to the University from down town) so we walked to the McDonalds, and thus begins my downfall. While we were walking, I rolled my ankle in my heels and had to hobble the rest of the way with a heavy limp. When we got to McDonalds, my Debit Card didn't want to work, even though I knew I had $100 on it. Luckily, Jocelyn was manager tonight (she's a sorority member with me) and she said that my meal was on her today, I felt to bad but very grateful at the same time. Then we walked back up to the bus stop. Kurt got so upset at me that I wouldn't let him give me a piggy back ride. I was afraid he'd drop me, after all most people do. But we managed back to the bus stop. When we got there it was about 10:30 and we still had a half hour until the bus so we sat down and had a picnic! Then this car pulls up behind us and asks if we want to buy drugs! It was so random! Then they said "Aww come on! We have something that'll blow your mind!". When we said no, they swore at us and drove away. Luckily the bus got here and we got home, safe and sound. We watched movies until the early hours. All in all, it was a good night.

November 29th, 2011

So classes were normal today. During the lunch break I worked for one of the sorority's charity projects. We're doing t-shirt cutting. Where we cut strips, weave, etc. these T-shirts into cool designs, sell them for $5 and donate the proceeds to the Canadian Cancer Society. Today was also the distribution of the care packages for U of L students. Now I didn't know what that meant so I went up to the Atrium at 2:30 p.m. to check it out. Turns out, all U of L students are eligible to receive specially made care packages. They are reusable Safeway bags filled with non-perishable groceries made up by the different churches and community groups from as far away as Milk River and Taber. Some even had Christmas cards in them! The one I got had spaghetti & spaghetti sauce, tortilla chips & salsa, fruit snacks, beans, juice boxes, etc. The whole idea behind them is that, since exams are coming up, the community wanted us students to have one less thing to worry about. They also wanted us to feel loved. I know I am very grateful to not have to eat at the Cafeteria. If any of you reading donated food to the U of L care parcels or to any university I thank you.
